Bauchi State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has lauded Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for his commitment to pension reforms, particularly the phased clearance of inherited gratuity arrears and the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The state NUP chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Alhassan, gave the commendation during a sensitisation campaign in Misau local government area, organised by the Bauchi State Pension Commission to enlighten local government staff on the workings and benefits of CPS.

He noted that the payment of gratuity arrears has greatly reduced the backlog left by previous administrations, bringing relief to many retired workers.

Alhassan further described the CPS as a bold and people-centred reform designed to prevent future pension liabilities and ensure financial security for workers after retirement.

The sensitisation campaign also extended to the Darazo local government area, where staff of the local government council were engaged on the scheme.

At both events, the executive secretary of the Contributory Pension Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Inuwa, urged workers to embrace the scheme, stressing that active participation is key to safeguarding their retirement benefits.
