Top officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have emphasized that unity among members remains critical to the party’s chances of winning the 2027 general elections.

The party’s leaders made the remark during a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, where they reaffirmed their commitment to collective efforts aimed at strengthening the party and achieving its political objectives.

Femi Olaniyi, chairman of the SDP State Chairmen Forum, stressed that sustained collaboration among party leaders would help the SDP grow stronger and remain a credible political platform in Nigeria.

“The state chairmen assure the leadership of their loyalty and commitment to working collectively in unity to deepen the party’s structures nationwide,” he said.

He commended Professor Sadiq Gombe, the party’s national chairman, and members of the National Working Committee for maintaining unity and focus within the party despite existing challenges.

The SDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Adewale Adebayo, also urged citizens to actively engage in the democratic process.
“Reforms to Nigeria’s electoral laws are necessary to strengthen public confidence and ensure credible elections,” Adebayo said.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to representing the interests of ordinary Nigerians, particularly those facing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, unemployment, and limited access to essential services.

Also speaking, Alfa Mustapha Mohammed, the SDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, emphasized the importance of unity, saying, “Unity must be built on the foundation of peace, justice, and fairness across all levels of the party.”

Mohammed stressed that unity remains crucial for the party’s success in the 2027 general elections and expressed confidence that with commitment and cooperation among members, the party would grow stronger and position itself effectively.

Earlier, the SDP national chairman, Professor Sadiq Gombe, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic values and principles.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Assembly to ensure the full implementation of the Electoral Act to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.
