Varsity Produces 111 First Class Graduates, Wins $3m ICT Grant

The Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State will graduate 5,297 students next week. Among them are 111 First Class First Degree graduates.

Its vice chancellor, Professor Farouk Adamu Kuta, who disclosed this at a pre-convocation news conference, said the grandautes were for the 2024/2025 academic session.

He said, “A total of 5,297 will be graduating and the breakdown is: 4,438 graduates will receive First Degrees, 73 Postgraduate Diplomas will be awarded, 633 candidates will be conferred with Master’s Degrees and153 scholars will receive Doctorate Degrees (PhDs).

“Among the First Degree graduates are 111 First Class, 1,525 Second Class Upper, 2,134 Second

Class Lower, 631 Third Class, and 37 Pass Degrees” the Vice Chancellor added.

On the progress made in the preceding year, Prof. Kuta said in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, FUT, Minna was ranked 7th best university in Nigeria and emerged as the highest-ranked specialized university in the country.

He said the university’s researchers also distinguished themselves by securing the highest number of TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) grant in the 2024 grant cycle as High-impact quarter 1 publications (58) and Patents (7) were produced by the researchers.

He said the University also secured a N1 billion TETFund Agricultural Commercial Farm Grant, positing the university among 10 beneficiary universities nationwide.

According to him, FUT, Minna attracted two major global research grants in 2025; a $3 million ICT Development grant from Agence Francaise de Development and a £15,000 Open Access Books grant from the United Kingdom.

He announced that the University has successfully established College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology, following full approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He said the pioneer students commenced academic activities in the 2025/2026 session in MBBS Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biotechnology, Procurement, and Logistics Management.
