Voting in the local government and LCDA elections has commenced in different parts of Lagos State, including Polling Unit 007, St. Stephens Nursery and Primary School, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island, where the State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, cast his vote.
LEADERSHIP checks showed that officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) arrived at the polling unit early in the morning with voting materials deployed amid water tight security by police officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Registered voters across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) were participating in the polls to elect the council chairmen.
376 candidates were vying for both chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions across the State in the election.
LASIEC chairman, Justice Abimbola Okikiolu-Ighile, revealed that the commission has created 13,325 polling units to ensure smooth voter access.
According to her, the commission will be using a new electronic voting technology, adding that it will not deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for the election.
