Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong said he and his teammates are battle ready for the all important – 2026 FIFA World Cup match day 5 qualifying encounter against the Amavubi of Rwanda.

The Group C encounter will hold at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali on Friday and Troost-Ekong who linked up with his teammates at their Radisson Blu Hotel base on Tuesday, took to the social media to declare the team’s readiness for the clash. “TOUCHDOWN LETS GET TO WORK,” Troost-Ekong wrote on his X handle.

The Super Eagles, still searching for their first win in the qualifiers, will be desperate to turn their fortunes around, while the Amavubi are aiming to edge closer to a historic first-ever World Cup appearance.

A win for Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium would strengthen their position at the top of Group C, while Nigeria, ranked 44th in the world, are under pressure to improve after a poor start to the campaign.

Nigeria, the highest-ranked team in Group C, sit in a disappointing fifth place after drawing three and losing one of their four games.

Having missed the 2022 World Cup, the Super Eagles are in danger of missing back-to-back tournaments for the first time since making their debut appearance at USA ’94.

Meanwhile, a total of 22 players are now in Super Eagles camp in Kigali following the arrival of Valencia striker Umar Sadiq.

Sadiq breezed into the team’s camp yesterday. Midfielder Alhassan Yusuf is the only player still being expected in camp.
