The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed grief over the recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking.

In a statement on Wednesday, signed by the Director of Media and Strategic Communications at the NGF Secretariat, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the Chairman of the Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, said the governors were “deeply shocked and heartbroken” by the attacks.

“We are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the terrorist attacks that struck parts of Maiduguri, resulting in the loss of many innocent lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of Borno State. We also wish those injured a swift and full recovery,” he said.

The Forum extended its condolences to Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, and the people of the state, assuring them of its solidarity during this period.

The NGF described the attacks as a grave violation of peace and security, noting that such acts of violence, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, constitute a profound affront to shared humanity and the values of the season.

It commended the response of the Borno State Government, the military and emergency services, stating that their actions helped to prevent further loss of life.

The Forum also acknowledged Governor Zulum’s leadership and his commitment to rebuilding the state and restoring peace.

The NGF called on security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attacks, while strengthening measures to safeguard Nigerians.

It added that Borno State has continued to demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity, expressing confidence that the state would overcome the tragedy.
