WEC Membership To Strengthen Nigeria’s Energy Reform Agenda – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria’s admission into the World Energy Council (WEC) will help strengthen the country’s ongoing energy reforms and give it a stronger voice in global energy policy.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Nigeria’s entry as the newest National Member Committee of WEC as a significant milestone, noting that it reflects confidence in the country’s energy sector reforms and its leadership role in Africa.

Tinubu said Nigeria’s membership of the over 100-country network positions it to play a more active part in shaping global discussions on energy security, equity and sustainability.

He congratulated the inaugural leadership of WEC Nigeria, led by chairman Abdulrazaq Isa and Chief Executive Officer Bala Wunti, along with other board members drawn from the energy sector, regulatory institutions, industry associations, finance, academia and the Future Energy Leaders community.

The President described Isa as an industrialist whose investments in indigenous refining and industrial energy have opened new opportunities for Nigerian enterprise.

He also praised Wunti, citing his more than three decades in the energy sector and his contribution to reforms he said had improved national revenues and investor confidence.

According to the statement, Tinubu said the board’s mix of industry veterans, regulators, finance experts and young professionals gives WEC Nigeria the balance and credibility needed to succeed.

The President was quoted as saying: “Nigeria has joined the World Energy Council to lead, not just participate — to ensure Africa’s voice shapes global energy decisions.”

Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for WEC Nigeria as a neutral platform for policy dialogue and investment, and reiterated the country’s commitment to working with WEC’s London-based secretariat to advance secure, affordable and sustainable energy.

He wished the Chairman, the CEO and the board success in what he called a historic national assignment.
