Winner emerged in this year’s Seplat’s PEARLs Quiz Competition for secondary schools in Delta and Edo States.
Don Bosco Science Academy, Ukhun, Ekpoma, Edo state has emerged, it defeated Our Saviour Secondary School, Sapele, Delta state by 62 – 48 points in the final which took place in Asaba, Delta state.
The winner carted away the N10 million first Prize in addition to N100,000 each for the participating students. The runner up school got N5 million in addition to N75,000 for each participating student.
In the third place contest, Hollywood International Secondary school, Asaba defeated Divine Providence Education Centre, Benin to clinch the third place and got N3 million and N50,000 for each participating student.
Earlier in his speech, managing director, Seplat West, Mr Ayodele Olatunde noted that the idea of the competition was to reward academic excellence in host states and build spirit of resilience in the students.
“I urge the participants to continue the good work and pursue their dreams with vigour. It takes a lot of resilience to get to the finals of competitions such as Seplat PEARLs Quiz competition”.
In his own remarks at the occasion, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, noted that the state government has placed so much premium on education.
Mr Edwin Osawe, director, policy standard and regulation, ministry of education, Edo state, who represented Edo state commissioner for education and Mr Oluwaseyi Orimoloye of Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) all commended Seplat Energy for initiating and sustaining the PEARLs Quiz competition over the years.
The competition which Seplat Energy began in 2012 has featured 1,300 schools and 56,000 students.
