Wydad Casablanca have officially announced the mutual termination of Moroccan international midfielder Hakim Ziyech’s contract, ending his brief stint with the club.
The Casablanca-based club confirmed the agreement in an official statement on Sunday, bringing an end to the 33-year-old’s tenure following a period of reported disputes with the club’s management.
In its statement, Wydad acknowledged that while Ziyech’s time with the team was shorter than anticipated, his presence and contribution were meaningful. The club expressed gratitude for his efforts and affirmed his lasting connection to the Wydad family, stating that a player’s legacy is measured by more than just the duration of their stay.
The termination follows tensions between Ziyech and the club’s new management, reportedly over his contract and salary. Wydad sought a reduction in wages, while the player maintained his position regarding the existing terms.
The situation escalated when Ziyech was excluded from a match against Renaissance Zemamra and subsequently omitted from the team’s training camp in Agadir. He was also reportedly instructed to train separately at the Mohamed Benjelloun complex. In response, Ziyech brought a bailiff to the training facility to document his situation, with indications that the dispute might have been taken to football authorities.
The two parties ultimately avoided a prolonged legal battle by reaching an amicable agreement to part ways.
Ziyech, who joined Wydad amid significant fanfare for his return to Moroccan football, is now a free agent and will be expected to consider his next career move.
