The Yobe State government has debunked a widely circulated report on social media alleging an imminent movement of Boko Haram insurgents towards Damaturu, the state capital.
A statement issued by the special adviser on Security Matters to the Governor of Yobe State, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), disclosed that the report was false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief makers in the state.
Titled, “Immediate Security Alert” the purported intelligence report, which has been making the rounds online, claimed that suspected Boko Haram fighters were advancing towards Damaturu.
According to him, the information did not emanate from the Office of the Special Adviser. It is fake and should be disregarded in its entirety, and has no basis in fact, said Abdulsalam.
He urged members of the public, especially residents of Damaturu, to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear.
Abdulsalam said that the government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security while warning against the spread of fake news capable of causing unnecessary panic among citizens.
He also reassured the public that security agencies are monitoring the situation and continuing to maintain surveillance to ensure the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
