Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to a viral video showing Seyi Tinubu appearing to skip a handshake with him at an event in Abuja, urging social media users not to draw conclusions without knowing the circumstances.
The video, which surfaced online following an event at the City Boy Secretariat on October 9, 2026, shows Seyi Tinubu greeting and shaking hands with people seated around a table before moving past Ahmad without exchanging a handshake.
The footage sparked reactions on social media, with some users interpreting the gesture as a deliberate snub.
However, Ahmad has offered an explanation, saying he was part of the entourage that accompanied Tinubu to the meeting and was not among those he had come to greet.
In a post on his official X account, the former presidential aide criticised the speculation surrounding the footage.
“All this fuss over a video when you don’t even know the actual context of what happened,” Ahmad wrote.
He explained that the delegation had accompanied Tinubu to meet a women’s group, whose members were the people seen receiving handshakes in the video.
“We attended the meeting together with him. We were not there to meet Seyi Tinubu, we accompanied him to meet the women’s group, those he was seen greeting and shaking hands with in the video,” he stated.
