Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) praise singer, Dauda Kahutu, popularly known as Rarara, has called out the leader of the neighbouring Niger Republic’s military junta, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, describing him as a “kidnapper” while calling for the immediate release of the ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and a return to civilian rule.

In a video circulating online, Rarara, speaking in Hausa language, addressed a crowd of supporters, describing General Tchiani as a disgrace to the military. He claimed that the Nigerien junta leader has tarnished the reputation of soldiers by resorting to hiding rather than addressing the crisis in Niger.

“By God’s grace, Bazoum will be released from the shackles of this kidnapper. The people of Niger have also realised that Tchiani is nothing but a kidnapper,” he declared.

Rarara further revealed that he had issued a 20-day ultimatum to Tchiani, urging him to free Bazoum and transfer power to civilians. According to the singer, his ultimatum appeared to have a resultant effect as he believed the junta leader was already taking steps to resolve the Niger crisis.

“When I began this crusade, some people thought I was too insignificant, but now they see the results,” Rarara stated. “I gave him 20 days, but he is already making moves to resolve the matter within a few days.”

The APC praise singer also mocked Tchiani, accusing him of cowardice. “We know a soldier is always ready to face any challenge, but he is a disappointment to the title. He wears the uniform and hides in the bathroom. This shows we are making progress,” Rarara claimed.

The Kano-based singer vowed to continue his prayers and advocacy for the release of former Nigerien President Bazoum and the end of the junta’s rule.

LEADERSHIP reports that Rarara’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some netizens supporting his bold stance while others questioned his knowledge of international politics such as political developments unfolding in Niger Republic.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Bazoum, who was overthrown in a military coup in July 2023, has been under house arrest as regional and international pressures mount on the junta to release him and restore constitutional order in the country.
