Governor Dauda Lawal yesterday visited Mada town in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara State for condolences over the killing of the community’s chief imam, Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Mada.

The cleric was murdered by a suspected group last week in Mada town.

A statement by the spokesman of the governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said Governor Lawal also performed the Juma’at prayer at the Mada Central Mosque.

According to the statement, the governor offered condolences to the family of the late Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Mada, the district head, and the community at large.

In another development, the JIBWIS Zamfara State chapter says the statement credited to the Zamfara State’s Community Protection Guards commander, Col. Rabiu Yandoto (rtd) had confirmed the involvement of CPG operatives in the murder.

A statement signed by its chairman, Aliyu Na-Allah Zurmi, said state government’s reaction exonerating operatives of the CPG in the murder was false and misleading.

The JIBWIS therefore urged Sulaiman Idris Bala to withdraw his statement defending the culprits.

According to the statement, eyewitnesses in Mada town identified some members of CPG as the culprits, contradicting the official statement from the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Idris Bala.

JIBWIS confirmed the statement made by Col Yandoto acknowledging the involvement of his men in the incident.
