The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has been returned unopposed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Zaria Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
The development followed an affirmation exercise conducted simultaneously across the 13 electoral wards of the constituency, where registered party members endorsed his candidacy.
A statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, confirmed that Abbas was the sole aspirant cleared after screening and party procedures.
The wards involved include Kwarbai A, Kwarbai B, Limancin-Kona, Unguwar Fatika, Unguwar Juma, Dutsen Abba, Gyallesu, Kufena, Dambo, Wuchichiri, Tudun Wada, Tukur-Tukur, and Kaura.
The exercise, which began around 10 a.m. on Saturday, recorded large turnout of APC members who gathered at their respective ward offices for the affirmation.
At Kwarbai B Ward, which is the Speaker’s ward, the process was conducted peacefully under the supervision of party officials and a returning officer, Malam Iliyasu Muhammad Balarabe.
Party officials said only one aspirant was cleared for the contest, leading to an open affirmation by members present.
According to ward officials, Kwarbai B has over 10,000 registered APC members, though 220 were cleared for participation in the exercise.
At the collation centre, the APC Returning Officer for Zaria Federal Constituency, Dr. Hamisu Ibrahim Kubau, announced that a total of 1,376 party members across the 13 wards affirmed the Speaker as candidate.
He declared Abbas returned unopposed, noting that the exercise was conducted peacefully with the presence of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.
Chairman of the APC House of Representatives primary elections in Kaduna State, Senator Yakubu Oseni, described the outcome as a reflection of the Speaker’s popularity and grassroots acceptance.
In his acceptance remarks, Abbas thanked party members for their support and pledged to intensify efforts toward effective representation.
He also called on constituents to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
