1 killed, 7 Injured, 5 Arrested In Street Fights In Minna

An unidentified passerby has died and seven other persons injured in street fights around Flamingo Estate Maitumbi area of Minna, the Niger State capital.

Five youths who took part in the fights have also been arrested.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that the youths engaged in street fights throughout Friday and early Saturday morning, attacking innocent people and in the process killed a passer-by.

Eyewitness account revealed that they were allegedly acting under the influence of illicit drugs, breaking into people’s shops, pilfering wares and attacking those who tried to resist.

It was also learnt that seven other people injured were rushed to the hospital after the police eventually dispersed them with teargas and made some arrests.

When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that there were street fights but the men of the state command were able to bring the situation under control.

While confirming the arrest of five of the ring leaders in the street fights, he said details of the incident were still emerging, hence, he could not confirm the number of deaths or injury.
