No fewer than 1,500 athletes have registered to participate in the MTN Champs Season 2 scheduled for in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
Emanoke Ogoro, general manager, MTN brand and communications, disclosed this in a press conference on Tuesday in Jos.
She said that the exercise aimed at discovering talents, particularly among young people in the state.
She said that exercise would feature four age groups; under-14, under-17, under-20 and senior categories.
Ogoro explained that the participants were largely drawn from secondary schools in the state.
”MTN has been participating in sports for over two decades.
”Ours is to put Nigeria on the world map; we will ensure that happens because we have an avalanche of talents to harvest.
”MTN stands for progress and this is a vision we will not allow to die.
”So, 80 per cent of the participants come from secondary schools in Plateau,”she said.
Ogoro further explained that aside from other prizes to be won by outstanding participants, the overall winner would earn a scholarship at the MTN Academy in Lagos.
Also speaking, Mrs Rebacca Shanshit, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Youths and Sports Development in Plateau, commended MTN for the initiative.
”We are delighted with this development; It will help our teeming youths to achieve their full potential in life.
”We are going to support this initiative and we look forward to collaborating more with MTN,”she said.
