The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday formally presented former House of Representatives member, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, as its senatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections, alongside other candidates for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.

The party also unveiled four House of Representatives candidates and 10 House of Assembly candidates during the flag-off of its Edo South senatorial campaign for the forthcoming local government council elections in the state.

Speaking at the event, APC State Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, said the opposition parties were too weak to challenge the ruling party in the coming elections, citing what he described as the achievements of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

He said, “We are sending this message to the people in the grassroots, the opposition parties are nowhere to be found, where is the PDP, where is the ADC, where is the NDC. The opposition cannot stand us because of what the governor is doing.”

Tenebe added that APC candidates were chosen to replicate the governor’s performance across local government areas, insisting that the administration had turned Edo into a “construction site.”

Former deputy governor of the state, Pius Odubu, described the coming local government election as a “dress rehearsal” for the 2027 general elections, while Major General Charles Airhaivbere (rtd) said the governor had done enough to secure APC’s victory.

Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, linked rising insecurity in parts of the country to political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections, while calling for the release of kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers, particularly in Oyo State.

He alleged that some actors were using insecurity to discredit the federal government, insisting that President Bola Tinubu was making progress.

“For the past eight years, you have not seen anything like this in this state… those looking for power should stop disturbing the President,” he said.

Okpebholo urged voters to support all APC candidates in the local government elections and beyond.
