Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe Central Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind the return of Senator Mohammad Danjuma Goje to the Senate in 2027, while also endorsing a second term in office for President Bola Tinubu.

The endorsements, which cuts across Akko local government area and Yamaltu/Deba local government area of Gombe Central, signalled growing political alignment within the senatorial district ahead of the next general election.

The latest show of support came on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, when stakeholders from Akko LGA held an emergency meeting in Gombe to reaffirm their backing for Goje’s continued representation in the Senate. The meeting followed a similar endorsement by thousands of party faithful from Yamaltu/Deba LGA on April 3.

Goje, who served as governor of Gombe State from 2003 to 2011 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before moving to the APC, has represented Gombe Central in the Senate since 2011 to date.

Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Prof. Mustapha Babawuro Yahaya of the Federal University Kashere, Gombe State, said the call for Goje’s return to the Senate in 2027 reflects the collective will of the people, anchored on his track record and experience.

“Democracy is fundamentally anchored on the will of the people, credible representation, and proven leadership,” he said, noting that the Constitution allows voters to retain lawmakers who have demonstrated competence and consistency.

He described Senator Goje as “a symbol of experienced and effective representation,” adding that his years in public service have translated into tangible development, strong advocacy, and visible impact across the state.

Stakeholders from Akko LGA stressed that Goje continued to enjoy widespread grassroots support, insisting that his popularity remains strong across Gombe Central. They argued that continuity in the National Assembly was critical, especially at a time when the country wws undergoing key reforms.

“Legislative effectiveness requires experience, institutional memory, and established networks—qualities that Senator Goje has developed over the years,” the group stated, adding that his influence has helped attract federal projects and strengthened representation for the district.

The stakeholders also disclosed that they had formally communicated their resolution to President Tinubu through the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, urging the party leadership to respect the wishes of the people.

While reaffirming their support for the ruling party, the group expressed concern over the APC’s performance in the 2023 elections in Gombe State. They noted that the party lost two of the three senatorial seats and five out of six House of Representatives seats, with Gombe Central emerging as the only stronghold of the APC.

According to them, both Senator Goje and a House of Representatives member from his constituency secured victories in the 2023 election cycle, underscoring his political strength in the district.

They also criticised the performance of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya during the 2023 elections, alleging that the party suffered significant losses across his polling unit, ward, local government area, and the wider Gombe North Senatorial District.

The stakeholders attributed the party’s poor outing to internal divisions and the exclusion of experienced figures like Goje from campaign activities at the time.

Emphasising the need for internal democracy, the group warned against imposition of candidates, urging party leaders to prioritise transparency, inclusiveness, and the will of the electorate.

“We reaffirm our total support for the continuity of Senator Goje in the Senate. Our position is firmly rooted in democratic principles and the enduring confidence the people have in his leadership,” the stakeholders said.

They called on the APC leadership to heed their position and support Goje’s return, expressing confidence that his continued presence in the Senate would guarantee stability, progress, and increased opportunities for the people of Gombe Central.
