Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has said the spate of defections from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) is a sign of things to come in 2027 in the state.
Barau Jibrin stated this over the weekend welcomed New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) members from the ward of the party’s former presidential candidate and national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as well as the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to the special adviser to the Barau on media and publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the deputy Senate president received into the All Progressives Congress (APC) NNPP members led by a former councillor of Kwankwaso ward in Madobi local government, Yahaya Sa’idu Kwankwaso.

He also received Hon. Abdulhamid Ahmad Diso, former deputy speaker of Gwale LGA (Diso Ward), Hon. Shu’aibu Isa Kubaraci, and their supporters who left NNPP for APC.

Also, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Hon. Garba Alhassan Dawaki, led former councillors and PDP members from Dawakin Kudu LGA to the APC.

They cited the impressive developmental strides of Senator Barau in Kano State as their motivation to join the APC, the statement said, noting that since August, the deputy Senate president has received various NNPP stalwarts into APC from the 44 local governments of the state.

Welcoming the new APC members however, Senator Barau, assured them they would be treated fairly and equally like all other party members.

He added, “Nobody will be discriminated against. APC is a party for all, where everyone is given equal opportunity.”

He said the “massive defection of the NNPP members to the APC is a sign of things to come in 2027.”
He continued “As it is now, NNPP is unknown in Kano North. In Kano South, the APC would soon sweep away the remnants of the NNPP there. The party is only known in a few streets in Kano Central.

“We will work with you to fast-track Kano State’s and the country’s development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to return the country to progress and prosperity,” he said.
