Ahead of the 2027 general elections, apex Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has declared that it was only interested in the socioeconomic wellbeing of the citizens of Nigeria, not partisan politics.
National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Ezichi Chukwu stated this in an interview with LEADERSHIP in Enugu.
Reacting to the recent of opposition coalition that chose African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027, Chukwu said, “Ohanaeze is not interested in partisan politics per se, and is not an affiliate of any party. The concern of Ohanaeze is the socioeconomic wellbeing of the citizens.”
Chukwu further averred that the organisation was desirous of a system which can guarantee strong and independent institutions, rather super men and demigods.
He restated the call by Ohanaeze for restructuring the country, which he said was embraced as a necessary condition for true federalism and its derivatives.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s spokesperson further explained that true federalism will serve to decentralise power and guarantee resource control as parts of its derivatives.
“Consequently Ohanaeze is a proponent of restructuring which we see as a necessary condition for true federalism and its derivatives such as decentralisation of powers, resource control, fiscal federalism, devolution of powers, easier institutional accountability and healthy competition,’ he stated.
