Seven people have been declared missing, while 89 houses and three vehicles were flushed away by torrential rainfall in Magama and Mashegu local government areas of Niger State.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the floods were caused by rainfall that lasted over 10 hours, increasing the volume of water along tributaries in the areas.
The spokesman of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Hussaini Ibrahim, said the agency received reports of floods in the areas yesterday.
Ibrahim stated further that at the time of filing the report, seven people had been declared missing.
He said the communities affected most were areas around Sabon Pegi in Mashegu and Nassarawa in Magama local government areas.
The NSEMA spokesman said search and rescue operations were on by the agency’s staff and volunteers, including people within the riverine communities.
