Nine people were burnt beyond recognition, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a multiple-vehicle crash near Zangoro village along the Bauchi–Maiduguri Federal Highway.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12.1 Bauchi Sector Command, confirmed the incident in a First Information Report (FIR) issued on Tuesday by Senior Road Marshal Assistant Suleiman Adamu Toro.

According to the report, the crash occurred at about 11:20 p.m. on Monday and was reported to the FRSC five minutes later.

Toro stated that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m., recording a response time of 15 minutes.

He explained that the collision involved a commercial Toyota bus with registration number DRZ 133 LG and a MAN Diesel tipper, which was transporting sand and had no registration number.

A total of 17 adult male occupants were involved in the crash. Of these, nine were confirmed dead and burnt beyond recognition, while the remaining eight sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The FRSC attributed the crash to a tyre burst while the vehicle was in motion.

Toro said the damaged vehicles and other items recovered from the scene had been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Bauchi State Police Command for further investigation.
