Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, has sparked heated conversations online after making controversial claims about infidelity and polygamy in Nigerian society.

Speaking during a podcast chat with fellow actress, Ayo Adesanya, Akintola argued that cheating among men is not a new phenomenon but a cultural pattern rooted in generational practices.

According to her, infidelity is closely tied to polygamous traditions and upbringing, which have long shaped family dynamics in Africa.

“The majority of our men cheat. Your father cheated, sir. Sorry, I’m sorry. Your grandfather did. Polygamy, polygamy. Yes, my father has two wives,” she said, noting that many men grew up watching such behaviour normalised within their homes.

She added, “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity came from in Africa. The reality is 90% of our men cheat, it’s ingrained in them. Some even grew up following their fathers to see girlfriends.”

Akintola stressed that women should be pragmatic about relationships instead of expecting flawless fidelity.

“You leave one man because he cheated, you go to another, the same problem. Jay Z cheated on Beyoncé. Did she leave? No. So please, let’s talk about the reality we are facing,” she said.

Pushing her point further, the actress claimed, “Let’s talk about the reality of what we are facing, which is that 99.9% of the men you will meet in Nigeria will cheat.”

Her comments came weeks after she opened up about her private life, revealing that she is childless and single at 52. The actress had confirmed in an interview with Pulse Nigeria that, “No, I don’t unfortunately,” when asked if she had children.
