To tame cultism and other related crimes on the campus, the management of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic (AkwaPoly) at Ikot Osurua in Ikot Ekpene local government area, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the police for effective and sustained security cover of the school.

The deal, LEADERSHIP Friday gathered, was renewed during a strategic meeting of the institution’s management led by the rector, Dr Moses Umobong, at the police area command, Ikot Ekpene council, “as part of its policy of effective collaboration and synergy with critical partners and stakeholders in a bid to consolidate on the prevailing peace and security on campus towards achieving a conducive learning environment.”

Umobong commended the police for their patriotic and professional role at ensuring peace and security in Ikot Ekpene and environs.

He said the cordial working relationship between the Force and AkwaPoly, which has led to sustainable peace on the campus, must be sustained.

He, therefore, promised to continue to partner the police to sustain the prevailing peace “in order to make AkwaPoly the preferred destination for teaching, learning and academic excellence.”

On his part, the area commander, ACP O.  C. Ogbonna, thanked the rector and the other members of the delegation for the visit, and reiterated the determination of the police force under his command, to live up to its constitutional duties of protecting lives, properties and the society by ensuring that “there is zero tolerance for crime.”

Besides, the police chief commended the rector for his leadership role as head of the polytechnic, noting that his tenure has so far witnessed complete eradication of cultism and other social vices in the polytechnic.
