The President of the Association of Driving School Instructors of Nigeria, Umar Musa, has denied recent allegations of collusion in the driver’s licence acquisition process.

Recall that a national daily had published a report titled, “How Driving Schools and VIO Connive to Subvert Due Process in Obtaining Driver’s Licenses for Underage Individuals,” which the president described as unfortunate.

The President, in a statement, emphasised that the process of obtaining a driver’s licence is so rigorous that one institution cannot dictate what the other should do given how well-defined it is.

According to him, the process starts with driving schools that train and issue driving school completion certificates before presenting such candidates to the VIO for authentication and further scrutiny.

He said, “meanwhile, the FRSC produces and designs the driver’s license. While the media is at liberty to investigate any crime or criminality, the outlet that reported it failed to get the side of the Driving School Association, which raises suspicion as to whether there is an ulterior motive.

“Nevertheless, we are putting measures in place to carry out an investigation into the allegations for the sake of our image.

“But I want to reiterate that we don’t cut corners and are against dubious practices by any driving school capable of denting our hard-earned reputation.

“We, therefore, appeal to the general public to disregard this report, which does not hold water.

“Since our existence as driving schools, we have trained credible individuals qualified in how to drive, cutting across all facets of life, and none of them have ever raised negative issues.

“We shall continue to serve the public and maintain our relationship with relevant stakeholders like the VIO and FRSC.”
