Celebration erupted at the weekend in Jigawa South West senatorial district as the Appeal Court affirmed the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Senator Mustapha Habeb Zannna in the 2023 general election.

The PDP supporters gathered at different places chanting the party’s slogan and expressing their happiness for winning the case of their only senator in the state.

In Dutse, the state capital, the party members gathered at the residence of Senator Mustapha to show their solidarity and also reaffirm their loyalty to the PDP.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja upheld the ruling of tribunal court that earlier validated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of Senator Mustapha Habeb as duly elected senator of Jigawa South West district.

The case was filed before the appellate court by All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Senator Muhammad Sabo Nakudu challenging the victory of the PDP candidate.

Senator Nakudu lost his case at the two courts as all the courts validated the INEC declaration.

In his reaction to the judgement, Senator Mustapha Habeb described the victory as a victory for democracy and the will of the electorates who voted for him overwhelmingly.
