The Bauchi State Government has commenced the distribution of another segment of food palliative across the 20 LGAs of the state to cushion economic hardship on citizens.
LEADERSHIP reports that the distribution was kick-started in Alkaleri and Kirfi local government areas. Each of the two areas got 1000 bags of assorted grains including rice, maize, millet and sorghum.
Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Wanka, demanded the local authorities to ensure equitable and fair distribution of the food items to the most deserving target beneficiaries in line with the guidelines provided by both the federal and state governments.
Represented by the director of Administration and Human Resources of the ministry, Ahmed Haruna, the commissioner said the ministry had put in place an independent monitoring mechanism within the communities to monitor compliance in the distribution exercise.
The commissioner said Governor Bala Mohammed is particular about having the palliative reach the intended target and called on the distribution committee to be just and fair in the exercise.
“Your assignment as distribution committee is an assignment of trust. So, ensure that you keep that trust and do your best in justifying the confidence reposed in you,” said the commissioner.
While receiving the items on behalf of the LG distribution committee, the heads of administration in Alkaleri and Kirfi LGAs both assured the commissioner that the committee would ensure equitable distribution of the food items meant for the most needy in their respective communities.
