Speaking during an oversight visit to AMAC, Hon Ezechi emphasized the committee’s role in monitoring the activities and budget performance of area councils within the Federal Capital Territory.

He praised AMAC Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu for his proactive leadership, describing him as an “intellectual leader” dedicated to the council’s growth.

“Our interaction so far has been encouraging. We acknowledge key challenges such as revenue collection discrepancies between the FCDA and AMAC, and we are ready to address these issues through legislative amendments where necessary. The committee assures AMAC of its support, whether through budgetary provisions or other means,” Hon Ezechi said.

In response, AMAC Chairman Christopher Zakka Maikalangu expressed gratitude for the committee’s visit and its vote of confidence in his administration.

He highlighted the council’s unique challenges, particularly the lack of schools, healthcare facilities, and accessible roads in rural communities within the municipality.

“AMAC is vast, with some areas 45 kilometers away and inaccessible by road. While my focus remains on improving the lives of rural dwellers, I need maximum support in areas like communal roads, primary healthcare, and critical infrastructure,” Maikalangu said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people and urged stakeholders to provide constructive feedback to help his administration perform better.

“If my people are happy, then I am happy,” he added.

He emphasized that the visit underscores the importance of collaboration between legislative bodies and local governments to drive development and address pressing issues affecting residents of the FCT.
