Students of Government Day Secondary School, Mpape, Abuja, have been urged to stay focused on their dreams and aspirations despite the challenges posed by their environment.
This message was delivered yesterday during an outreach programme organised by the Godspeed Leadership and Mentorship Development Initiative (GLEMDI) in Abuja.
Themed “Self-Discovery in a Disadvantaged Community: The Power of Positive Thinking,” the event aimed to inspire young learners to embrace self-discipline and personal development.
The GLEMDI team emphasised that every child possesses unique skills and potential, and with determination, they can succeed regardless of their background.
Speaking at the event, a representative of GLEMDI noted, “Every child is blessed with unique skills and potentials and can become what they want to be in life. Though our environment is pivotal in shaping us, success is attainable through focus and determination.”
Mpape, a densely populated suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, is known for its socio-economic challenges. The GLEMDI team highlighted the risks young people in such communities face, including peer pressure, substance abuse, and moral decline. However, students were encouraged to resist negative influences and strive for excellence.
The students pledged to avoid social vices, work hard, and leave a positive legacy for themselves, their school, and their community.
