Abuja’s literary community was agog on Friday, March 7, 2025, as acclaimed author Mr David Nwokorie unveiled his latest book, Before the Next Move. The event attracted a distinguished audience, including Hon. Suleiman Ibrahim Dabo and the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, represented by Chief Obinna Nwaka.
Providing the book review, Hon. Dabo described Before the Next Move as a timely and insightful guide for young people navigating a complex society. He highlighted key themes from its seven chapters, particularly its discussions on time management, human interaction, and youth participation in politics. He also commended Nwokorie’s reflections on religion and humanity, emphasizing faith as a personal journey.
In his remarks, Mr Nwokorie reinforced the call for youth engagement in politics, stressing the need for personal development and capacity building. He urged young leaders to embrace political exposure and passionately pursue their aspirations.
Delivering the keynote address, Chief Obinna Nwaka focused on Chapter Two, which examines youth involvement in politics. He underscored the need to dismantle barriers to civic education and create leadership opportunities for young people. He praised the book’s practical guidance, emphasizing that Before the Next Move is about taking action and making informed, purposeful decisions that drive societal impact. Nwokorie maintains that young people must engage in politics to learn from past leadership mistakes and contribute to national development. While acknowledging that no single individual can change the world, he emphasized that collective efforts can transform communities.
Committed to broadening the book’s reach, Nwokorie, with Hon. Dabo’s support, plans to distribute Before the Next Move to universities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, starting with institutions in the North. He also encouraged storytelling in all forms, asserting that the true essence of writing lies in delivering messages that endure through time.
The event underscored the power of literature as a tool for shaping the future, with Before the Next Move serving as a call to action for young Nigerians to step up and lead with purpose.
