The current managing director and chief executive officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has declared interest in running for governor in the next gubernatorial election in Osun State.
The former commissioner for Finance under the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola made the official declaration during a visit to the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the state Secretariat, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.
Oyebanmiji, who declared his competence for the post, attributed his decision to govern the state to his profound commitment to serve humanity, particularly the good people of Osun State, where he lived uninterruptedly for the first twenty years of his life.
The gubernatorial hopeful, who was accompanied by party stalwarts to the secretariat, noted that regardless of the zoning and agitations for either Osun West, East, or Central, he remains the most competent to run under the party’s platform come the 2026 governorship election.
He said, “I am here today to honour the party’s structure and inform the party’s leadership of my intention to become the next governor of Osun State in 2026. This visit is important because it is the party’s leadership. Therefore, to start any official advocacy or campaign, we must come here to have their blessings and communicate my intention.”
On his political antecedents in the progressive government, Oyebamiji noted that his achievements have been the motivator driving his ambition to administer the affairs of the state next year.
He said his indelible imprints while serving as the managing director, Osun State Investment Company Limited, OSICOL, where in five years he moved the capital base of the company from N360 million to N6 billion, and two term Commissioner of Finance in the state, have clearly distinguished him as the most capable person to direct the path of the state to financial freedom and economic prosperity.
