The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF), a coalition of youth groups in Northern Nigeria, has called for urgent action over the killing of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Yahaya Massusuka, while also commenting on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent Umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. It commended the president for going to Mecca to seek God’s help in the affairs of the state.
The coalition described the killing of the cleric as a threat to national unity and peaceful coexistence, urging security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
National Chairman of the coalition, Sama Musa, made the position known in a statement, emphasising the importance of religious tolerance, prayers and collective commitment to national development.
Musa noted that Nigeria’s ethnic, cultural and religious diversity requires sustained efforts to promote understanding and peaceful coexistence among its citizens.
The coalition called on President Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police and relevant security agencies to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the killing.
It urged the authorities to identify and arrest the perpetrators and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
The group stressed that the killing of religious leaders and other innocent citizens could further deepen divisions and insecurity if those responsible were not brought to justice.
The NYF reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote national cohesion, security, religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence across Nigeria.
It maintained that protecting lives, upholding justice and strengthening mutual respect among citizens must remain priorities in the country’s efforts to achieve lasting peace and development.
