Six contacts of confirmed Ebola case are expected to exit the quarantine facility on Sunday after completing the mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms.
The Incident Manager for Ebola at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Dr Odianosen Ehiakhamen, disclosed this on Saturday while speaking on NTA News.
Ehiakhamen said the six individuals, including two domestic staff and the driver of the index case, had spent 21 days in the facility without showing symptoms of the disease.
According to him, the individuals are among those who have been under observation at the quarantine facility following their contact with the index case.
Nigeria confirmed its first imported case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) on October 20, 2026, involving a 42-year-old woman who arrived in Abuja from Uganda.
The patient, who was subsequently evacuated to Switzerland for further medical care, had tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
Following the confirmation, NCDC, in collaboration with relevant health authorities, intensified contact tracing, surveillance and isolation measures to prevent further transmission.
Contacts considered at risk, including healthcare workers and domestic staff, were placed under monitoring for 21 days, the recognised incubation period for Ebola.
