Climate Change Bill, 6 Others Pass Second Reading In Kogi Assembly

The Kogi State Climate Change Agency Establishment bill and six other bills passed second reading in the Kogi State House of Assembly at yesterday’s plenary.

This followed the announcement by the speaker, Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, that the state legislature would lead the fight against climate change.

He informed the members that they would lead tree-planting exercises as a symbolic gesture to celebrate the 2025 World Climate Action.

The bill, which was exhaustively debated and contributions made by the lawmakers, was then given a second reading and committed to the necessary committees.

The other bills that were also read for the second time include;

A bill for a law to provide for the restriction of heavy duty truck movement in lokoja metropolis and other matters connected thereto, 2025, and a bill for a law to amend the kogi state commodity exchange export promotion and market development agency law, 2024.

Others are a bill for a law establishing the Kogi State Bureau of Lands and other matters connected therewith, 2025, and a bill for a law to repeal the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency law, 2005, and enact the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency law, 2025.

Other bills to be considered include: a bill for a law to amend the Kogi State Oil Producing Area Development Commission Law, 2023, and a bill for a law to repeal the Local Government Electoral Law, 2004 and enact the Kogi State Local Government Electoral Law, 2025.
