Crown FC’s general manager, Olumide Olupeju, has voiced his discontent regarding the officiating in his team’s match against Kun Khalifat FC at the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs in Asaba, Delta State.
The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Kun Khalifat FC, prompting Olupeju to threaten a formal challenge to the result before the NNL management.
In a post-match interview, Olupeju criticised what he termed a controversial penalty awarded to Kun Khalifat FC by the referee. He expressed his disappointment with the officiating, particularly given the assurances of fair play provided by George Aluo, Chairman of the Nigeria National League Board, during the match fixture draws.
Olupeju urged the officiating team to uphold standards of fairness in the remaining matches to maintain the enthusiasm and spirits of the players.
Despite this setback, he expressed confidence in his squad, asserting that they would still secure a promotion ticket to the Nigeria Professional Football League.
In other matches on the first day of the playoffs, Barau FC and Yobe Desert Stars FC played to a goalless draw, as did Wikki Tourists FC against Doma United FC. In the day’s fourth match, Osun United FC triumphed over Warri Wolves FC with a single goal.
This marked the second day of the Nigeria National League Super Eight Promotion Play-Offs at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium in Asaba.
