Medical activities were paralysed on Wednesday at the University College Hospital (UCH) as nurses complied fully with the seven-day warning strike declared by National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

The striking nurses joined the ongoing nationwide strike, following the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.

The strike, which commenced on July 29, 2025, had paralysed nursing services across public health institutions, as nurses demanded urgent attention to long-standing welfare and professional issues.

Speaking with newsmen after a closed-door meeting at UCH, the chairperson of NANNM, UCH chapter, Funmilayo Faminu, said the decision to fully comply in the industrial action in line with the national directive, was unanimous.

She said the association was demanding the immediate gazetting of the approved 2016 Nurses Scheme of Service; implementation of the National Industrial Court (NIC) judgment of January 27, 2012, review and enhancement of professional allowances and recruitment of more nurses and improvement of healthcare infrastructure; among other requests.
