The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the Minister, Nyesom Wike, will on Saturday, November 15, 2025, launch the Project Breathe Clean Air Abuja, a landmark initiative promoting the adoption of clean cooking gas (LPG) as a safer and healthier alternative to firewood and charcoal.

With the theme “Renewing Hope, One Household at a Time,” the event, supported by IHS Nigeria, will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, and will bring together environmental and health experts, students, development partners, policy makers, and other key stakeholders.

A statement issued by the Minister’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on Friday, said the initiative was aimed at reducing health risks associated with household air pollution, protect the environment, and contribute to sustainable living in the capital city.

Speaking ahead of the launch, the Mandate Secretary, Dr Dolapo Fasawe, reaffirmed that the project is strategically designed to advance public health and environmental sustainability.

She thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for throwing his weight behind the project, and the IHS Nigeria for their commitment to the project.

The six-month programme will include the distribution of 5,000 gas cylinders across the six area councils of the FCT, encouraging households to switch from firewood and charcoal to clean cooking gas.
