The Kwara State Police Command, on Thursday, said it has put in place a watertight measure to ensure the security of lives and property ahead and during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In a statement, the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, said the command has implemented additional measures to ensure a peaceful and secure festive period.

CP Ojo said the command has deployed policemen to strategic areas, including places of worship, critical infrastructure and markets to man security before, during and after the yuletide period.

The statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, read: “The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, extends his warm greetings to all residents as the Christmas and New Year celebrations draw near. To ensure a peaceful and secure festive period, the Command has implemented additional measures and reiterates the following guidelines.
‎
‎”The command has deployed Police personnel to strategic communities, critical infrastructure, markets, worship centres, motor parks, and major public spaces across the State. Joint surveillance and intelligence-sharing operations are ongoing to maintain vigilance and deter any security breach.
‎
‎”The use, sale, and distribution of fireworks, bangers, and other explosive devices remain strictly prohibited. These items can cause panic, trigger false alarms, and serve as a cover for criminal activities. Offenders will be arrested and prosecuted.
‎
‎”The restriction on motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (Keke Napep) between 9:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. remains in full effect. This regulation continues to play a crucial role in reducing night-time crimes and enhancing community safety.
‎
“The command urges members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear; we are fully committed to maintaining peace and the security of all residents throughout the festive season and beyond. Any information relevant to public safety will be communicated promptly through the official Command channels.
‎
‎”For distress calls or reports of suspicious activities, please contact the Kwara Police Control Room via: 08125275046 or 0703206950.”
