Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of a chairman and permanent members for the Yobe State Agency for the Great Green Wall (YGGW). It is part of sustained efforts to address desertification, climate change, and environmental degradation across the state.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the state government, Baba Mallam Wali, which was made available to Leadership in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital,
He said that those appointed are Alhaji Usman Barau Sugum, Chairman; Alhaji Konto Bukar, Permanent Member; Alhaji Aminu Alhaji, Permanent Member; and Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi Jajimaji, Permanent Member.
According to the statement, the appointments take immediate effect.
It will be recalled that Governor Buni recently established the Yobe State Great Green Wall Agency (YGGW) to provide an institutional framework for effective environmental protection, land restoration, and sustainable livelihoods in frontline communities.
As part of the take-off measures, the Governor also appointed Engr. Muhammad Wakil Machina as the Director General of the Agency.
The appointments underscore Governor Buni’s commitment to strengthening environmental governance, combating desert encroachment, and promoting sustainable development in line with national and international climate action initiatives.
