Lagos State government, through its Ministry of Youth and Social Development, has urged corps members deployed to the state, especially those in the health sector, to discharge their duties in tandem with international best practices

The commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, stated this at an induction and training of Year 2025 NYSC Corps Members on Pedagogy of Health, organised by the ministry in Lagos.

Ogunlende stressed the need for all corps to undergo a training programme to equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to discharge their duties as expected without endangering any life.

The commissioner, who described corps members in the medical field as carrying a higher level of responsibility, assured the participants that the ministry will sustain the programmes so that all corps members deployed to Lagos will be well prepared to handle people facing different health challenges.

According to him, the health ambassadors in schools, communities, and institutions need training to equip them with tools for effective health education communication strategies, communication engagement techniques, basic public health principles, and the ethical standards required for delivering health information responsibly.

On her part, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm (Mrs) Toyin Oke-osanyintolu, noted that the emphasis on the pedagogy of health was essential for the participants, as mere possession of knowledge would not be enough to tackle the challenges they would likely encounter in the course of practice.

Mrs Oke-osanyintolu, represented by the Director of the Administration and Human Resource Department, Mr Abiodun Dina, implored the participants to think creatively, be innovative, have curiosity, collaborate with other health practitioners and employ technology in addition to upholding professionalism, integrity and compassion in order for them to remain relevant wherever they find themselves.
