Former Tottenham and Chelsea defender William Gallas has issued a stark tactical warning to Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, insisting that the England international must overhaul his playing style to rediscover his peak form.
After several gruelling seasons as Arsenal’s primary attacking outlet, concerns are mounting that Saka is showing signs of physical burnout.
Scouts and analysts have noted a dip in his explosive acceleration, raising questions about whether the 24-year-old can no longer rely on sheer pace and must instead pivot toward a more cerebral, positionally intelligent approach.
Speaking exclusively with BOYLE Sports, Gallas didn’t hold back. He argued that Saka’s signature move—cutting inside from the right flank onto his favoured left foot—has become too predictable.
According to the Frenchman, Premier League defenders have now fully decoded the winger’s habits.
“Saka is 24 now. What does he have to do to get back to his best? Maybe he has to change his football,” Gallas said.
“Every player knows him in the Premier League. They have all played against him. They know his movement. He has to change something and bring something new into his game to surprise his opponents.”
Gallas emphasised that for a player of Saka’s profile, performance is measured in cold statistics—goals and assists—and that the current numbers suggest stagnation. He also pointed to squad depth at major clubs, noting that rotation is not a luxury but a necessity.
“For the type of player Saka is, we are always looking at what they produce. How many goals has he scored? How many assists did he create? Then we will know whether he has improved or not, to compare with previous seasons.
“He is still young at 24, and he started very young, but it doesn’t matter. He has to bring something new to his game. A big club has a big squad, so it’s about rotation as well.”
The comments add to a growing debate about Saka’s workload and longevity, with Gallas suggesting that without tactical reinvention, even the brightest young stars can become neutralised by familiarity.
