Tongues are waging in Delta state over the brutal murder of a young man by the Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Delta command.
The yet-to-be-identified young man despite his hands being tied behind his back and his repeated pleas for mercy was allegedly shot and killed.
Despite still restrained and defenceless, eyewitnesses at the scene watched in horror as the officers ignored his cries and was shot at close range.
“He may have killed yo cover a very sensitive information. If not why did they not allow him to talk. Why were they in a hurry to kill him? eyewitness said.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been established, and the exact allegations against him remain unclear which has stirred widespread condemnation.
The disturbing incident, at Effurum Area Command, was captured in a video shared by Inside Delta on Instagram.
The footage shows the helpless young man crying and begging the officers to spare his life, promising to cooperate fully and reveal whatever information they required.
In the video, the victim is heard pleading desperately, “Officer, I beg, I will tell you everything. It was my friend that deceived me.”
Reacting to the incident, activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who also posted the video on X, called for an immediate and thorough investigation, describing the act as a live execution.
“Please share to the authorities to investigate this ASAP. This is a live execution carried out by some armed men alleged to be police officers attached to Effurum Area Command, Delta State Command,” he said.
“You caught him and tied both hands behind his back, stripped him of any chance to defend himself. He wasn’t fighting, he wasn’t running, he was begging. Begging for a chance. Begging you to take him to Sapele, to show you someone, anyone, who could speak for him, who could prove his innocence.
“But you didn’t listen. You pulled the trigger and ended his voice, his plea, his chance to be heard.
“The next act maybe: a gun placed beside his lifeless body. A story is crafted. A label is stamped: ‘Armed Robber.’ Just like that. But tell me, can a dead man speak? Can a lifeless body defend itself?”
Efforts to get an official response from the Delta State Police Command were unsuccessful.
Calls and messages sent to the Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) of the Delta police command, SP Edafe Bright, were not answered as of the time of filing this report
