Kogi State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to uphold the values of discipline, unity, loyalty and peaceful coexistence as they proceed to their various places of primary assignment across the state.

Governor Ododo, who was represented by his deputy, Joel Salifu, gave the charge on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kogi State.

The governor commended the corps members for their exemplary conduct throughout the three-week orientation exercise, expressing satisfaction with the high level of teamwork, discipline and patriotism displayed during their stay at the camp.

According to him, the virtues demonstrated during the orientation programme are clear indicators of a successful and impactful service year ahead.

Governor Ododo noted that the orientation course, which featured activities such as the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, sports, drama, drills and talent exhibitions, was designed to prepare corps members for productive and self-reliant living after service.

He urged the corps members to remain law-abiding and integrate peacefully with their host communities, stressing that such conduct would earn them acceptance, support and goodwill throughout their service year.

The governor further assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state, reiterating that the safety and welfare of corps members remain a top priority of the Kogi State Government.

He also encouraged them to take full advantage of the SAED programme by participating in post-camp entrepreneurship training aimed at equipping them with practical skills capable of reducing unemployment and promoting national development.

Governor Ododo announced the sum of N10,000 each for the 1,807 corps members as transportation support, amounting to over N18 million.

He also appreciated the management of the NYSC for its sustained commitment to nation-building through youth development.

Earlier in her remarks, the Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation course and advised them to accept their postings peacefully, remain security conscious and make good use of the SAED programme to acquire skills that would make them self-reliant after service.

She also commended the Kogi State Government for its support towards the success of the orientation exercise, particularly the repair of damaged camp facilities and welfare support provided for the 1,807 corps members.
