A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has purchased the party’s presidential nomination form ahead of the 2027 general election.

Sani made the disclosure on Tuesday during an appearance on Trust TV, saying the former president’s actions suggest he is seriously considering a return to active partisan politics.

According to him, the purchase of the nomination form is a clear indication of political intent.

“In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that,” Sani said.

When asked directly if Jonathan had obtained the form, Sani responded:
“Yes, and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”

Sani also expressed confidence that legal efforts challenging Jonathan’s eligibility to contest the presidency again would not succeed in court.

He argued that the issue had already been settled judicially and could only be overturned by the Supreme Court.

“We are very confident that the matter will be thrown out because you cannot re-litigate something that has already been decided upon,” he stated.

The PDP stalwart further said the case before Justice Peter Lifu, scheduled for hearing on May 26, would likely be dismissed on grounds of jurisdiction.

He dismissed claims that Jonathan’s supporters were merely using the former president’s name for political relevance, insisting that many Nigerians still hold nostalgic memories of his administration.

Goodluck Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 before losing his re-election bid to former President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
