Newcastle Appoint Jaissle As Head Coach On 4 Years Deal

Matthias Jaissle has been named Newcastle United’s new head coach, signing a four-year contract after the club paid £9.5m (€11m) compensation to Saudi side Al Ahli.

The 38-year-old German, who led Al Ahli to back-to-back Asian Champions League titles, takes over following Eddie Howe’s departure and will debut in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Valencia.

“When Newcastle comes your way, you take notice,” Jaissle said in a statement while citing the club’s ambition and vision. He previously won two Austrian Bundesliga titles with Red Bull Salzburg and took them to their first Champions League knockout stage.

Newcastle called him the “standout candidate” for his player development, high-intensity style, and long-term fit.

Jaissle added: “My football is front-footed, aggressive, vertical—a perfect fit for Newcastle. Control the controllables, and with everyone pulling together, it’ll be a successful season.”
