The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), in collaboration with Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, has launched a 12-month technical training programme for 60 young Nigerians to strengthen local expertise in the oil and gas industry.
The programme, hosted at Nigeria Machine Tools Limited in Osogbo, Osun State, is designed to equip participants with specialised engineering knowledge and practical technical skills needed to support Nigeria’s industrial and energy sectors.
General Manager of Corporate Communications at NCDMB, Dr Obinna Ezeobi, disclosed the initiative in a statement on Sunday, explaining that it was implemented under the Nigerian Content Human Capacity Development (NC HCD) Training Programme for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited’s EPU Phase 2 Gas Development Project.
The curriculum covers engineering design, fitter machining, conventional machine tool operations, programming, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), electrical and mechanical maintenance, and document control.
The 12-month programme is structured into six months of intensive classroom instruction and six months of supervised on-the-job training with reputable companies.
Participants are expected to obtain internationally recognised certifications upon completion, potentially improving their employability and readiness for technical roles in the oil and gas industry.
Speaking on behalf of Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Richard Oyiborhor, Interface and Integration Manager for the NLNG Supply Project, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to developing Nigerian talent and strengthening local technical capabilities.
He commended NCDMB’s efforts to advance Nigerian content development and described the collaboration involving Seflam SGL and Nigeria Machine Tools as an important step towards building the country’s industrial workforce.
Bisola Agboluaje, Senior Manager, Business Interface at Seflam SGL, congratulated the trainees and said the initiative originated in 2024, when NCDMB approved the training plans.
She described the programme as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s technical talent pool.
Nigeria Machine Tools Limited Chief Operating Officer, Obehi Ojeagha, welcomed the trainees and praised the partnership among the participating organisations.
She highlighted the institution’s 46-year history of supporting Nigeria’s industrial development and expressed confidence that participants would acquire the technical skills, discipline and practical experience needed to contribute to the oil and gas sector.
The initiative is expected to help address technical skills gaps by preparing young Nigerians for specialised roles in engineering, equipment maintenance, machining and manufacturing operations.
For participants, the combination of classroom instruction, workplace experience and professional certification could improve access to employment opportunities in the energy and industrial sectors.
The programme also creates a pathway for strengthening local participation in oil and gas projects by developing a workforce capable of supporting technical operations and reducing reliance on external expertise.
Through the partnership, NCDMB and Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited are investing in human capital development to support Nigeria’s industrial capacity and the long-term growth of its energy sector.
