The Kogi State government is to recruit more civil servants in the state following a shortfall in the number of personnel.
The state currently has approximately 63,870 employees across the state and local government workforce, down from the previous figure of 88,973 workers, following a verification exercise conducted under the immediate past administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
The Bello administration reportedly reduced the verified workforce from 88,973 to 63,870 employees after removing thousands of unverified personnel and suspected ghost workers from the state’s payroll.
The reduction affected the combined workforce of the state civil service, local government employees and teachers, bringing the total number of verified workers to 63,870.
Meanwhile, the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has indicated that his administration will soon embark on a massive recruitment exercise to fill vacancies and strengthen the state’s workforce.
The planned recruitment is expected to provide opportunities for prospective applicants seeking employment in the state, although details of the exercise, including the number of vacancies and commencement date, are yet to be announced.
