Villa Albertine in partnership with the Ford Foundation has opened calls its 2024 residencies programme.
The programme offers a two-month exploratory residency programme to five thinkers, creators or culture professionals from Africa in the United States (US) in 2024. Its aim is to promote unique creative voices, and practices from Africa with the potential to shed light on major contemporary issues that resonates both in the US and Africa, or address issues that open up new perspectives in the US and France.
An individual-based research project selected applicants are expected to conduct original research requiring an immersive stay in any city in the US. researches may be based on new proposals devised specifically for the Villa Albertine, or on pre-existing research that would benefit from new and unique development in the US.
As a field investigative research programme targeted at fostering inspiration and building new connections, the residency will present selected participants access to key US organizations and figures in their areas of expertise, in order to enable them kickstart active dialogue with their US counterparts.
Applicants must be no older than 21 years, speak fluent English, and may submit a single proposal on one of the many arts related disciplines – from visual arts, design, architecture, performance art, music, cinema, digital creation, fiction writing, comic books or social science among others.
Applicants are to further submit a three-minute self-introductory and project-explanatory video alongside proof of COVID 19 vaccination doses.
