Abia State House of Assembly has summoned the commissioner, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the state for explanation over the commission’s two abandoned road projects in Ohafia South constituency.
The roads are the 26-kilometre Asaga-Eziafor Ohafia-Biakpan-Etono, and the 14-kilometre Asaga-Amuke-Amangwu Ohafia-Urukpam Biase both terminating in Cross River State.
Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emereuwa gave the directive following a motion moved by the member representing the constituency, Kalu Mba Nwoke on the floor of the House during plenary, yesterday.
“I agree with my honourable colleagues that the prayer by the member representing the constituency should be granted. In addition, the commissioner should be invited for explanations over the matter,” he said.
While moving the motion, Nwoke had expressed worry that the roads were excluded in the recently complied list of the commission’s abandoned projects in the state.
Nwoke, who called on the commission to include the roads in the list as a matter of urgency, lamented that the users have been facing many challenges including high transportation cost.
He stressed that the commission should also reach out to members of the National Assembly from the state to appeal to the federal government to urge the contactors handling the projects to return to site.
