The apex northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has called on Nigerians to pray for a change of hearts of terror merchants, their sponsors and other enablers for a peaceful Nigeria.
In a statement felicitating Nigerian Christians on Easter celebrations, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, said it remained hopeful that a more peaceful, prosperous, and socially harmonious Arewa and Nigeria was still possible and achievable.
ACF, however, prayed for security, peace and prosperity.
The statement said, “The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) felicitates with the Nigerian and worldwide Christian Ecclesia on the 2026 Easter Season, and the conclusion of the Lent Period, one involving reflections, fasting, compassion and goodwill, in commemoration of the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“The celebration is even more remarkable given the continuing, even escalation, of daunting social, economic and political challenges that citizens have been facing for a considerable time now, including pervasive insecurity and criminality across Nigeria. ACF rues that the existential challenges have continued to deteriorate in the three geopolitical zones of the North of Nigeria, in communities after communities which suffer devastation, undeserved deaths, destruction, disease, dislocation, fractured intergroup relations, etc., due to the activities of non-state armed actors, criminals and other terror merchants”
ACF stated further, “That ordinary citizens will still celebrate, therefore attests to their commendable resilience, belief in and hopes for a better future. Undoubtedly, the challenges are not insurmountable, and citizens must persevere. ACF remains hopeful that a more peaceful, prosperous, and socially harmonious Arewa and Nigeria is still possible and achievable. Our communities have the capacity to emerge more resilient, stronger, tolerant, hospitable and accommodating for all, as opposed to the current culture of angst, mistrust, intolerance, despair, despondency and hopelessness”
“Going forward, ACF calls on Christians and all citizens to remain peaceful, law-abiding and prayerful that peace, security, justice, equity and economic prosperity will return to Nigeria; prays that Nigeria’s national security agencies will be reinvigorated and re-energised to crush the cascading reigns of terror and criminality across Arewa communities and Nigeria at large.
Calls for energetic and unequivocal decisive action to decapitate terrorists and criminals and their activities, even as all should pray for a change of hearts of the misguided terror merchants, their sponsors and other enablers or conditions which allow them to operate with impunity,” the statement said.
